Clinical Psychology

Based in Kent Town, less than 5 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, Human Psychology is one of Adelaide’s largest and oldest psychology practices with appointments available within 48 hours with no waitlists.


Our experienced psychologists combine scientific psychological principles such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, positive psychology, acceptance commitment therapy, assessment tools and solutions focussed therapy with post-graduate qualifications, significant commercial experience and deep understanding of human behaviour and change processes.

Samantha Young

Managing Director, Clinical Psychologist

Samantha holds a Masters of Psychology (Clinical) from the University of Adelaide and a Masters of Business Administration from Melbourne University / University of Virginia Darden Business School. She is a registered psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Society. Samantha is highly experienced in working with clients presenting with a wide variety of problems such as depression and anxiety, stress and lifestyle issues. She is an experienced Executive Coach and has a strong background in design and delivery of bespoke training programs, complex HR consulting and strategic planning facilitation having held senior management roles with Mattel Toys, The Body Shop Australia / NZ and Myer GraceBros and consulting for The Boston Consulting Group


Dr Renae Hayward

Clinical Psychologist

Renae holds a Masters of Psychology (Clinical), a PhD (Psychology), and a Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and College of Clinical Psychologists. Renae is passionate about mental-health, well-being, resilience, and personal growth and has experience working with both adults and adolescents in community, private practice and organisational contexts. She works with clients experiencing a range of diverse issues including anxiety, mood, emotion regulation, interpersonal, coping, and self esteem difficulties, and has a particular interest in working with trauma related problems. Renae also provides critical incident support to organisations. Renae's treatment approaches include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Schema Therapy techniques, Brief Solution Focussed Therapy, Positive Psychology, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) for trauma and Traumatic Incident Reduction.


Cheryl Ahrens

Clinical Psychologist

Cheryl has a Masters in Psychology (Clinical and Health) from the University of Adelaide and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society's College of Clinical Psychologists. She has worked extensively in both public and private sectors since 1994. Cheryl has a background working with people with complex mental health difficulties. She uses a range of evidence-based therapies in her work, with interests and training in the assessment and treatment of trauma, stress and anxiety, grief and depression, weight and body image concerns, and substance use issues. She also works with individuals and couples to provide relationship counselling. In addition, she is experienced in providing personal injury, motor vehicle accident and worker's compensation assessment and treatment.


Rachel Armstrong


Rachel holds a Master of Psychology with a passion for mindfulness, resilience and positive psychology. She uses an eclectic, evidence-based approach including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based interventions. Registered since 2004, she has experience with stress, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, grief, relationship issues, anger, workplace issues/bullying, sexual behaviour issues, and substance abuse. She provides clinical and organisational services including assessments (clinical disorders, IQ, cognitive issues, Fitness for Duty, medicolegal). She is an engaging speaker and training facilitator.


Ingrid Freriks


Ingrid has been helping clients to overcome challenges and get the most satisfaction out of their lives for 19 years. She brings energy, warmth, understanding and an open mind to her clients. She specialises in working with relationship issues, affairs, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)/trauma, anxiety, sleep issues, and parenting issues. She works extensively with police and military personnel, and is an experienced trainer. Ingrid holds a Master of Clinical Psychology and uses a range of approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. At the core of Ingrid’s approach is collaboratively finding what is most important and valuable in our lives, and helping to find the barriers that may have prevented us from getting there.


Dr Zoey Doueal


Zoey holds a Doctor of Psychology (Forensic) and is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society and APS College of Forensic Psychologists. She has an extensive background of clinical experience in adult mental health services, correctional services and private practice. Zoey has over 15 years experience as a psychologist in the assessment and treatment of a range of psychological and lifestyle concerns including depression, anxiety, anger, stress, addictions and sexual problems. She is also experienced in providing forensic and WorkCover assessment and treatment services.


Jason Thomas


Jason holds a Master of Psychology (Organisational and Human Factors) from the University of Adelaide. His skills centre on psychological application in the workplace and using evidence-based approaches to enhance work-life wellbeing and organisational efficiency. Jason has partnered with a range of private and government organisations providing critical incident response, mediation, psychological education and training, change management, and leadership development and coaching. Jason also works with individuals experiencing a range of issues including depression and anxiety, stress, anger, and mood and emotional regulation difficulties. Jason’s treatment approaches include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Positive Psychology and Brief Solution Focused Therapy.


Samantha Vincent


Samantha is a registered psychologist with clinical endorsement and holds a Masters of Psychology (Clinical) from the University of Adelaide. Samantha works with adults, children and adolescents who present with a range of issues, including emotion regulation, anxiety and depression, including working with children and their families regarding school concerns, parental separation, bullying, and sleep difficulties. She has a strong interest in promoting the psychological health and wellbeing of children and adolescents in order for them to reach their full potential.


Jane Turner Goldsmith


Jane is a registered (general) psychologist with a background in health, education and counselling psychology. She is especially interested in promoting mental and physical health and well-being and in nurturing people’s creativity - both in life and as applied to the challenges they may be facing in life. She is a trained and experienced teacher and workshop facilitator. She has most recently worked in a University counselling service and with international students, as well as with employees under the Employee Assistance Program.


Clark Sim


Clark holds a Master of Arts (Psychology) and Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology from Otago University, New Zealand. He is a registered Clinical Psychologist and Member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association. He has worked in various clinical and business settings including community mental health, correctional services, private practice, and as a clinical manager and corporate trainer. Clark treats a range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, personality-based problems, substance abuse and post-traumatic stress. He has also worked extensively with issues such as stress, anger, interpersonal difficulties, sleep and sexual problems. He has experience providing executive coaching, training and professional supervision, and is skilled at assisting others to improve communication and constructively resolve conflict.

Lorraine Roberts

Practice Manager

Lorrie has been our Practice Manager since 2010. She is responsible for managing administration, finances and quality service outcomes. Lorrie’s first priority has always been ensuring the client experience in our practice is positive and professional and along with her team of friendly Receptionists.


Coralie Maloney

Marketing & Business Development Manager

Coralie looks after coordinating Human Psychology training programs, training projects and our print and digital marketing and communication. Coralie is also studying a Bachelor of Psychological Science with the University of South Australia and is very passionate about wellbeing at work.


Mary Lepore

Reception & Administration Assistant

Mary joined Human Psychology in 2011 as part of our Receptionist Team. Mary works 3 days a week, Monday to Wednesday and her friendly, compassionate and a welcoming personality is an asset to our practice.


Angeliki Papacharalambous

Administration Assistant

Angie joined Human Psychology in 2014 and currently works in our administration team at the Training office. Angie works 3 days a week, Tuesday to Thursday and her vibrant and friendly personality is highly valued at Human Psychology.
